About XTAR
In the rapidly changing world of satellite-based services, XTAR is a U.S.-based satellite communications company headquartered in Leesburg, Virginia. XTAR enables U.S. Government and allied governmental (military and civil) customers to lease capabilities on a commercial basis through satellites operated by Hisdesat for the Government of Spain.
XTAR’s core offerings include military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) and advanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data services:
- MILSATCOM: Offering connectivity in the X-band and mil-Ka frequency bands via two strategically-located satellites in geosynchronous orbit at 29°E and 30°W, XTAR provides full MILSATCOM compatibility, ideal for a wide variety of missions including military enterprise communications, special operations missions, information gathering, border security, and much more.
- SAR Imaging: Offering a wide variety of high-resolution X-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging capabilities, our LEO-based services offer a flexible aperture that is capable of generating broad-area and high-resolution (25cm) images of small areas in stunning, high-contrast, all-weather detail. These advanced features come with coherent change detection (CCD) capabilities using interferometry, as well as ground control point (GCP) generation, suitable for navigation, civil engineering and/or military targeting.
Founded in 2001, XTAR is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hisdesat Servicios Estratégicos S.A., which, as of 2026, is part of the Indra family of aerospace and defense companies.
