OPERATIONAL BENEFITS

XTAR service is covered under Status of Forces agreements, therefore minimizing Host Nation approval issues. Because it offers the same X-band frequencies as government systems, including Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) and DSCS, users of XTAR capacity have the option to switch back and forth between commercial and government satellites as needed.

XTAR works with all existing DoD X-band terminals with no modifications required. High-power payload amplifiers allow the use of advanced coding techniques thereby achieving very high data rates.

Through just a modest investment in a new modem, XTAR has demonstrated a dramatic improvement in data rates: 150 Mbps over the legacy rate of 8 Mbps. Given minor modification to terminal feeds, XTAR can significantly increase available capacity. Furthermore, XTAR's unique polarized spectrum provides access to both its left hand and right hand spectrum simply by rotating a feed.
